"Mel" Almada, the only Mexican player in the big leagues today, started his baseball career with the Seattle Club, of the Pacific Coast League, in 1932.  In 1933 he played with the Boston Red Sox in 14 games, getting a batting average of .341.  He was farmed out to Kansas City the following year, batted .328, and was recalled by Boston toward the end of the season.  "Mel" Almada played with Boston until 1937, when he was traded to Washington along with the Ferrell brothers, for Ben Chapman, and Buck Newsom.  On June 15th, 1938, Washington traded him to the St. Louis Browns for Sam West.  His 6-year major-league average shows "Mel" with 650 hits in 565 games, for an average of .291.
