More about the Exhibit

Mary Baker Eddy is most often noted for her accomplishments as a religious leader.  "This is woman's hour...," however, tells the largely untold story of how her life and ideas helped to break new ground for women and to advance society's understanding of health and healing.   Through video and audio stations, and multi-dimensional panels, the story is told of a woman who rose above personal battles with illness and 19th-century society's strictures on womanhood to become an influential author, healer, teacher, and publisher, founding The Christian Science Monitor at age eighty-seven.

"This is woman's hour..." has appeared at several libraries, state houses, and public venues throughout the United States, including Washington, DC, at the National Press Club and The George Washington University's Gelman Library, and The Free Library of Philadelphia.  Its national tour during Winter 2000 and Spring 2001 will include stops at the San Antonio Public Library, Lubbock Main Library, Houston Central Library, Colorado State House and Auroria Campus Library.

This exhibit was developed in conjunction with the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, New York, and is sponsored by The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy in Boston.
