Friends of Texana/Genealogy Support Group

The Friends of Texana/Genealogy is a departmental support group structured within the larger Friends of the San Antonio Public Library. The group meets four times a year for programs on local history or genealogy. Proceeds of their annual book sale are used to purchase materials or equipment not provided for in the Library budget.

Donations

Donations of single books or complete collections are welcomed with the understanding that they will be used to the Library’s best advantage. They may be added to the collection if they meet selection criteria or disposed of according to standard Library policy.

Statistics

4,500+ reference questions answered each month
An average of 20 volunteers work about 350 hours each month in the Department.
Each month an average of 60 places in Texas outside Bexar County, and 17 states other than Texas are home to researchers.
International visitors from Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa have used the collection since January.
These statistics are compiled from visitors registering to use machines or for materials which are retrieved by staff.
