The Judah L. Magnes Museum
This Berkeley, California museum’s holdings include paintings, sculptures, drawings, video, photography, a library, and the "world's largest archive on the Jews of the thirteen western American states." Notable pieces from the collection are featured.

National Foundation for Jewish Culture
Brings together novelists, playwrights, poets, critics, and academics from Israel, North America, and Europe to discuss Jewish literary, social, and political concerns as reflected in contemporary literature. Includes information about theater, film, museums, libraries, scholarships, grants, professional, and community services.

Film and Theater

Jewish Film Archive Online
Provides information about movies with "content of Jewish interest," including plot synopses, date of release, director, producer, country of origin, and language.

Yiddish Language Playscripts
From the American Memory Collection of the Library of Congress, this site features seventy-seven plays from the American Yiddish theater of the early 1900’s.

Literature

The Jacob M. Lowy Collection
This branch of the National Library of Canada in Ottawa houses a collection of rare Jewish manuscripts dating back to the 15th Century.

The Jewish American Literature Research Homepage
Features biographical and critical information for the works of contemporary Jewish-American authors such as Philip Roth and Cynthia Ozick. (*Note: This site is still under construction, and there’s no indication of when it was last updated.)

A Guide to Chabad Literature
Tradition meets technology at this authoritative site offering links to multi-media galleries and learning centers, hypertext libraries, and electronic journals.

The Jewish Museum
This New York museum’s site features a permanent collection called "Culture and Continuity," exhibition items from its special collections, and information about visiting the museum.

Art Judaica
This commercial site offers a virtual gallery of unique Judaic art and traditional symbols and features new artists every three to six weeks.

JewishGen
One of the most extensive genealogical sites on the Web, JewishGen has more than twenty searchable databases, a calculator that converts dates from Gregorian and Jewish calendars, and a link to the International Jewish Cemetery Project.

The Jewish Genealogy Home Page
Designed for beginners, this site from the Dallas Virtual Jewish Community provides links to many genealogical sites. It also includes an online version of the Dallas Jewish Genealogical Guide, a helpful starting point for finding resources.

The Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies
An official listing of Jewish genealogical societies.

Canadian Jewish Congress National Archives Genealogy
Contains an annotated list of the resources available for genealogical research at the Canadian Jewish Congress National Archives.

La Pagina Rodas
La Pagina Rodas is a South American Spanish language genealogy page providing access to several genealogical databases, with an emphasis on Argentina.

 

HISTORY

American Jewish Historical Society
This membership organization, research library, archive, and museum was founded in 1892 and is considered the oldest ethnic historical organization in the United States. "Often referred to as the ‘national archives’ of American Jewry, its holdings are the preeminent resource for scholars, museums, filmmakers and publishers who want to document American Jewish life from the 1590s to the present". Their website provides links to upcoming events, prizes and fellowships for scholars, electronic discussion groups, and other resources for students of Jewish American history.

Jewish Studies, Tulane Manuscripts Department
With holdings in the areas of art, business, medicine, literature, and politics, "the Tulane Manuscripts Department is one of the world's larger archives of the American Southern Jewish experience." The site provides a catalog of what is available in the collection.

Jewish Heroes and Heroines in America from Colonial times to 1900
A collection of biographies on Jewish historical figures such as Levi Strauss and Emma Lazarus.

Myer and Rosaline Feinstein Center for American Jewish History
This joint effort between Temple University and the American Jewish Committee provides information on the historical significance of Philadelphia Jews, a searchable directory of American Jewish Historical Repositories, and other information on American Jewish History.

Jewish American History on the Web: Jews in the Civil War
Offers stories, letters, and diaries of both Confederate and Union Civil War soldiers.

At Home on the Range: Jewish Life In Texas
This promotional site has photographs and excerpts about Jewish life in certain Texas communities.

The Archive: Jewish Immigrant Culture
The mission of the Archive is to "preserve the history and collective memory of the Jewish immigrant community from the former Soviet Union and to create an engaging environment for today's immigrant culture."

National Museum of American Jewish Military History
Provides information about museum membership, a list of current and future exhibits, and highlights and photos of selected exhibits. Recent exhibits include: Major General Julius Klein: His Life and Times and I Remember: Personal Recollections on the End of World War II.

The Leona G. and David A. Bloom Southwest Jewish Archives
Along with information about the Archives, this site highlights selected exhibits from the collection. One can explore the synagogues of the Southwest and learn about pioneers of West Texas.

Jewish American History: The Builders of America
Boris Feinman’s exhibit, Builders of America-We are America’s Jews is permanently on display at this Internet site, even though it has been taken down from the Cannon rotunda in Washington D.C. The exhibit documents the history of the first Jewish steps on American soil with Christopher Columbus.

Catskills Institute
This non-profit group is dedicated to preserving the record of Jewish life in the Catskill Mountains. Available here is a photo archive, a bibliography of related readings, and details about future plans and upcoming meetings.

Created in 1906, the AJC is committed to protecting civil and religious rights, fighting anti-Semitism, and promoting human relations. American Jewish Congress
This informative site covers politics, health concerns, and women’s and legal issues.

National Council of Jewish Women
An organization dedicated to improving "the quality of life for women, children, and families." From this site one can find information on membership, the history of the organization, and examples of their advocacy programs.

Canadian Jewish Congress
Provides information about the activities of the organization in the areas of education, international affairs, and national unity. The CJC also maintains an archive and provides links to other sites.

Jewish Student Groups Around the World
